In term of high-performance off-road vehicles, the Ford SVT Raptor is probably the best factory truck you can buy nowadays. However, Chrysler is fed up with it and plans on offering a strong rival.
While the Auburn Hills-based company has the competitive Ram Runner in its lineup, the pickup is being built with Mopar aftermarket parts. This means that costumers have to buy the vehicle from Chrysler and then update it outside the assembly plant. The Michigan automaker wants to change that and, according to company representatives, it's now looking for ways to offer a factory-built Ford F-150 SVT Raptor rival.

"My boss would really like us to try to do a little more research on the Raptor and how it does (in the market). If we could see that the volume was significant enough that it makes sense to do it, we’ll do it. But if we don’t, then we’ll continue to do it the way we do it," Pat Dougherty, vice president-Mopar parts, sales and field operations told WardsAuto.

Of course, the project seems a little too far from happening anytime soon, especially with the sales volume figure taken into account, but Chrysler may see a great deal of success if Mopar-tweaked vehicles could be driven directly off the assembly line. With Mopar still holding its heritage, Ford might just get a rival truck set to steal some of those high-performance off-road segment sales. Now we'll just have to wait and see what happens over at Chrysler…
