Chrysler Belvidere Builds 1 Millionth Vehicle

A major milestone was achieved this week by American manufacturer's Belvidere Assembly Plant (BAP) in Illinois, as the 1 millionth vehicle rolled of the assembly lines. The car? A natural green Jeep Patriot, which managed to clinch the honor of being the 1 millionth car in front of the other two models manufactured at BAP, the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass.

BAP began by being built in 1964 and produced its first vehicle the following year. It started by manufacturing Plymouth, Dodge and Chrysler vehicles. The last overhaul of the plant took place in 2005, when the Dodge Caliber, Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot were added to the production queue.

“The Belvidere plant has been producing some of Chrysler’s most popular models for the past 45 years and the Jeep Patriot is just the latest model to add to the list,” Kurt Kavajecz, BAP plant manager said in a statement.

“We are honored to be part of this significant milestone. The success of the Jeep Patriot, Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber is a testament to the dedication of our workforce and their commitment to producing a high quality product.”

As for the vehicle which managed to enter Chrysler's history books, it will be shipped to a Chrysler dealer in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. It is powered by a 2.4l engine paired to a five-speed manual transmission.

It comes equipped with satellite radio, power heated seats, keyless entry, speed control, leather wrapped steering wheel and aluminum wheels. The starting price for such a model is $15,995, including $630 destination.
