With most of the attention focused on the 2-Door and 4-Door Broncos, it’s sometimes easy to forget about their more compact sibling, the Bronco Sport. With availability for the latter starting this very month, Ford is taking every opportunity to remind customers of its existence.
Produced in Mexico instead of the Michigan Assembly Plant, the Bronco Sport is probably destined to live a quiet life in the shadows of the 2-Door and 4-Door Broncos. One of the main reasons for that is not only the hype surrounding the bigger models but also its base pricing, which is dangerously close - $26,660 as opposed to $28,500 for the 2-Door Bronco.
The Bronco Sport does have the advantage of starting its life exclusively as a five-door crossover SUV, one that has been embedded with the Bronco DNA and G.O.A.T. (goes over any type of terrain) reputation. It’s also a possible versatility champion in the making, as far as we have seen from early reviews and walkarounds of pre-production models.
The Blue Oval itself is pushing the pedal in that direction as well, showcasing the Cargo Management System in a dedicated “Ford How-To” feature on its YouTube channel (video embedded below). It’s actually not the first time we have seen this from (semi) official sources, as we previously checked out the Bronco Sport in various interesting scenarios – including an encounter with two dogs.
We have a feeling that many owners will take advantage of the smart features of the five-way configurable system (which can be used as a full/half shelf, trunk partitioner, or half/full table, among others), along with many of the other versatility features the company has envisioned.
That’s because Ford says the cargo area was “smartly designed” to engulf a couple of 27.5-inch-wheel mountain bikes, the liftgate has LED floodlamps and flip-glass rear window, and there’s even an integrated bottle opener in the trunk.
Not to mention the 100+ “factory-backed and aftermarket accessories” that should make it easy to haul anything on an adventure – from kayaks, surfboards, or skis to camping equipment. Last but not least, the Bronco Sport can even be had with four bundle packages, aptly named Bike, Snow, Water and Camping.
