You could say that things aren't exactly going Chris Evans' way. Two days ago he announced his resignation from the Top Gear team after a less than inspiring first inaugural season, and now this little embarrassing story showed up.
The main critique that Chris Evans had to face from the Top Gear fans - apart from not being Jeremy Clarkson - was aimed at his presenting style. People argued that he was shouty, annoying, he didn't seem relaxed (because he wasn't), and, generally speaking, it made watching him physically painful.
Faced with such harsh feedback, Chris Evans took a step back and so the next Top Gear season will feature the same gang as the one that had just ended, minus one particular ginger. But no matter how virulent the fans were, they never had anything to comment on the man's driving skills.
They did claim he wasn't a true petrolhead in spite of his impressive car collection (which he extended during the filming of the show with a McLaren 675LT), but they never said anything about how good he is behind his wheel. Or maybe some did, but the other complaints were just so much stronger that the driving bit failed to come through.
However, that might have changed had Evans still been involved with Top Gear after this little incident in Surrey. Driving his Aston Martin Vantage, Chris ended up on a narrow street with cars parked on one side and a BMW coming from the other way.
The two drivers met, and since there wasn't enough room for both to pass, Evans was forced to maneuver in that tight spot. To his credit, it looks like the BMW 3 Series driver was way over on his side of the road, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he struggled to clear through.
The Sun reports that he even had to solicit the help of a passer-by to guide him through the maneuver. Your best bet in situations like these where the biggest risk is scratching your wheels against the curb is to climb on the sidewalk on purpose, which instantly relieves you of this worry and lets you focus on not hitting the other car.
