Chris Evans, the ginger-haired TV and radio presenter who replaced Jeremy Clarkson at Top Gear and who everyone loves to hate lately, is in a bit of a pickle these days.
First, he announced that he will step down from being the lead presenter of Top Gear, and now there is word that he will be questioned by police over an alleged sexual assault accusation.
Apparently, the allegation was forwarded to the Metropolitan Police in May this year, but the alleged sexual assaults happened in a continuous manner back in the 1990s, when Evans was co-presenting Channel 4's Big Breakfast show.
“An allegation of non-recent sexual assault was made to police on Monday, 23 May,” said the Met in a statement. “The allegation was made by a woman against a man. It relates to incidents in Tower Hamlets in the 1990s. There has been no arrest and no person has been interviewed under caution. Enquiries continue.”
Speaking exclusively to Heat Street on condition of anonymity, the woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted by Chris Evans said that she had to endure the presenter's “bullying” and “traumatic” behavior almost every day for two years while they were working together.
While most people would wonder why it took so long for her to go public with the story and inform the police about the matter, it seems that she had made a statement to a lawyer back in 2009.
Oddly enough, a group of people that also worked with Chris Evans on The Big Breakfast made similar allegations against the presenter in a couple of Facebook posts, where Evans was said to have continuously bullied and acted inappropriately around his co-workers.
The BBC hasn't given any statements regarding the accusations brought to its presenter yet, but Evans insisted that none of it is true on his Radio 2 show, where he is expected to continue to perform after stepping down from Top Gear.
