One season. Six episodes. Barely a year. That’s how much Chris Evans kept his own as the head honcho at Top Gear. For the 24th season, the car show will soldier on with Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, Rory Reid, Sabine Schmitz, and Eddie Jordan.
In a write-up published by The Daily Mail, Chris Evans opens up on what happened during his tenure as the leading host of Top Gear. As Evans explains in his article, “I am entirely sad Top Gear didn’t work out – I would have loved to have carried on working on it. But letting go with a smile on your face is far better than clinging on till you look constipated. Know what I mean?”

I’ll admit I never liked the idea of Chris Evans as the helmsman of Top Gear, but this sincerity made him grow on me. He’s still not fit to bring back BBC Top Gear to its former glory, as in the era of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.

Evans also explains that he doesn’t regret a single second on Top Gear. “The highlight of any unforgettable experience such as this, of course, is the people you encounter and share it with,” writes the 50-year-old British media personality. What surprises me most, however, is Evans acknowledging that Matt LeBlanc “is the man. He is the captain Top Gear truly needs.” For once, I completely agree with Evans. Matt is still a diamond in the rough as far as presenting is concerned, but he will get better with time.

When all is said and done, Chris Evans can keep his head up high because he resigned from Top Gear, not ousted out from the show like Jeremy Clarkson. Don’t, however, think that Chris will be hanging around unemployed. From here on in, Evans will dedicate all he’s got to Radio 2, CarFest, Children in Need, 500 Words, and “whatever else we can dream up in the future.”

On a final note, Top Gear Series 24 is slated to begin production in September 2016. Sometime in October 2016, The Grand Tour (a.k.a. Clarkson and his crew) will start airing on Amazon Prime.
