Rivian, the company that wants to position itself among fully electric vehicle manufacturers as the one with the best adventure models, has released an important story update regarding its models. As such, now we know about the R1T’s upcoming equipment packages, their range, pricing, and when exactly is the configurator tool going online.
Backed up by major names from across the automotive and technology realm (Ford, Amazon, Cox Automotive, various investor funds, among others), Rivian is currently sitting on a huge pile of cash. Sure, developing those Electric Adventure Vehicles (EAV) is the best way to fast-burn some of it, so the company is getting ready to have the customers chip in from now on.
This is because preorders have opened for both the R1T and R1S, at $1,000 apiece. And, very soon, future customers will be able to configure things like the exterior color, interior, battery range, wheels, and even that camping kitchen accessory for upcoming overlanding adventures.

Initially, there will be three equipment packages to choose from: R1T Launch Edition, Adventure, and Explore. They are priced at $75k for the first two, and from $67,500 for the third one. First one to become available will be the Launch Edition, naturally, from June next year, followed by the Adventure and Explore in January 2022.
Rivian has noted that preorder holders need to hurry up and take advantage of their exclusive configurator time window, as the Launch Edition will be a limited-series model – though they’re not telling us exactly how many units are available.
According to the available information, the Launch Edition has a few perks going for it – an available Launch Green color option, a standard premium Adventure Package, free upgrades to select wheels and tire options. It’s also coming with a “Large” battery pack (Adventure and Explore models also have it) enabling a range of more than 300 miles (483 km) on a single charge.
By the way, Rivian promises it hasn’t forgotten about the 400+ mile battery pack, which is set to become available for the R1T pickup truck alongside the Adventure and Explore models, come January 2022. There’s also a cheaper lot of R1T and R1S incoming, equipped with the 250+ mile pack, but information on these will be announced once the company starts series production.
