Chocolate, Watches and Cars from Switzerland

What do we know about Switzerland? They make tasty chocolate, expensive watches and they have been neutral to almost every war on the old continent of Europe. Now, the Swiss have something more up their sleeve, as Berne Beck Engineering & Composits GmbH think they can create a supercar.

They are nothing more than a small manufacturer, known for their LM 235/Orca C113 model, but now they have another on the way, in the form of the LM 800. This new sports car has a 4.2 liter V8 engine (probably Audi), and a turbocharger specially designed for this model, which helps the engine develop 650 horsepower.

Taking advantage of this engine, the LM 800 is estimated to reach a top speed of 349 km/h (217 mph) and to hit 100 km/h (60 mph) in just 3 seconds. What sets this car apart from every other supercar out there is the very low drag coefficient, or at least that is what the producer points out as a main feature.

In many ways, the Beck LM 800 is similar to a Formula 1 car, because it has a monocoque chassis which is made of an aluminum frame and state-of-the-art composite materials. Another feature similar to F1 cars is the electronically controlled, hydraulic active chassis, made to react to telemetry data. The gearbox is a 7 speed semi-sequential one, and gear changing can be done with an old fashioned gearstick or with a rocker switch on the steering wheel.
