Traffic is dangerous even for those going the right way and being in a vehicle. When you go against traffic, you are putting yourself and others at risk.
A video of a toddler who was riding a pedal-less bike made headlines after a video of his ride against traffic was published online. The Chinese kid got lost from his mom and went out to look for her on a busy road, and he happened to also go the wrong way.

A quick look at the video will make almost anyone flinch, especially when considering the brief moment when the child goes out of sight when a bus passes by him.

Fortunately for everyone involved, the kid was avoided by all the vehicles that were driving on the busy road in Lishui, a town located in the Zhejiang Province, according to The Independent. The boy’s age is unclear at the moment, but the most likely version claims that he is about three years old.

The incident was quickly resolved by a police officer that was in the area, who ran into traffic to stop the child. Once the police officer found the kid, his mother discovered where her son was, and then got reunited with her offspring. This story is not how safe roads in China can be if you are lucky, but what can happen if you leave your kids unattended.

Other observers noted that none of the vehicles that pass by the child bothered stopping, and getting out of the automobile to help the child seems to be out of the question for those drivers. Fortunately, the police officer had some sense and a job to do, so he rescued the child before someone ran him over.

Mr. Bernhard Schwartlander, the representative of the World Health Organization in China, noted that about 10,000 children die on Chinese roads every year, and it happens because of car accidents. More than a third of these kids were pedestrians, which goes to show the problems of the world’s largest car market.
