The world of performance vehicles is doing pretty fine (aka laughing in the financial crisis’ face), if we are to judge by the number of new models being introduced. The last few years have seen established players on the market strengthen their positions and also newcomers launching fresh models, with some of them having the ambitious goal to enter the “go-fast” history book.

Of course, the Chinese carmakers couldn’t miss this party, as the world’s largest automotive market is also the home of multiple car businesses that are run with an ego for which even the whole country is not big enough. For example, BYD (Build Your Dreams) said that it wants to become the world’s biggest automaker by 2025. And it looks like it is already doing a good job, as it has managed to convince U.S. billionaire Warren Buffet to become an investor.

But we’re not talking about a big carmaker here, as the latest Chinese automotive producer to plan a sports car, Lifan, doesn’t really have a history to rely on.

A set of renderings published by the website shows us Lifan’s view of how a sports car should look like. The image shows a compact coupe that seems to have borrowed a few styling cues from Audi and Cadillac. The project seems to be in an early stage, with no information available.

The Chongqing-based automaker has been considering building a sports car since 2006, when the company said that it was seeking a deal with Zakspeed (an established name in the world of motor racing) to develop such a vehicle.
