Chinese Grand Prix to Be Hit by Rain

Rain seems to become a tri-factor consistently in this year's Formula One championship, as the weather played tricks on the F1 field 2 out of 3 times in 2010. Apparently, it plans to show up once again in China, as the weather forecast for this weekend's race at the Shanghai International Circuit is not very optimistic.

Longer-range weather forecasts last weekend were predicting up to a 85 per cent chance of rain for Sunday afternoon, with the race scheduled to begin at 3pm local time,” said a report from the GMM news agency on Tuesday.

The chance of rain on Sunday has now diminished, but a cool week – with almost definite rain expected on Wednesday and Thursday – is still forecast,” added the report.

Meaning the rain should pour in just before the start of the Chinese Grand Prix, as weather predictions for Friday's practice sessions and Saturday's practice and qualifying suggest higher temperatures. As for Sunday, however, it seems the weathermen predict a more than 50 percent chance of rain.

Following the hot Bahrain Grand Prix, rain influenced both races in Australia and Malaysia, causing some spectacular racing in the starting rounds of the season. If the Aussie GP was regarded as one of the most spectacular races in F1 for the past decade, the rain-affected Malaysian GP qualifying caused some serious disorders on the grid, causing some title favorites to fail on getting past Q1.

The Shanghai circuit is placed just outside city's centre – approximately half an hour drive – in the Jiading district, where rain is common this time of year. Last year's race also got under way in rainy conditions.
