Chinese Gas Station Caught Selling Watered Down Fuel

It’s happened to everybody: bad fuel causing mechanical problems from corrosion to engine failure. But few people can claim they’ve had it as bad as these Chinese customers.

A number of cars from the city of Nantong have broken down just minutes after filled at a Sinopec stand (owned by the China Petrolium and Chemical Corporation). The reason? The gas was full of water, and we don’t mean just a little.

One of the cars was found to contain 80% water in its tank. A representative for the company said “There is absolutely no way that the fuel sold here was diluted intentionally.” He suggested that a likely culprit was water condensation on the inside of the fuel taker that had form during delivery. However, that would mean that tons of water formed in every tanker, and that it was only 20% full at that time, which is highly unlikely.
