Any car company who's name is "Landwind" is going to have a tough time being taken seriously. So instead of doing their very best to come up with a good product that everybody will like, the Chinese car company by that name decided it's much easier to copy a famous Land Rover design that everybody already knows.
This is the Landwind X7 and if BMW doesn't sue them for taking the name of their future full-size SUV, the Brits should because it looks exactly like the Range Rover Evoque.

As you all know, the Evoque is probably the best looking compact SUV ever made. When it came out, people said that it looks like a concept car with number plates and even though two years have passed, it's still better than any BMW or Audi design.

These photos have been taken by Chinese website Autohome just before the X7's market debut during the Guangzhou Auto Show in China. As you can see, the Landwind has copied everything, including the shape of the taillights, the trunk lid spoiler and most of the interior.

The Chinese are famous for their cloned car designs. While the local market has been growing at double digit rates every year, some carmakers have stopped cloning European cars and designed their own. However, smaller firms still send their little spies to major auto shows with pencils and tape measures in hand.

Usually, these copies are less successful than the Landwind SUV, which even matches the Evoque in terms of output. The X7 is said to be powered by a 2-liter turbo engine rated at 190 horsepower, which is the same as the a top turbodiesel version of the UK-made SUV.

It's even 3 times less expensive to buy than the real thing, which makes us wonder if the Landwind X7 is held together by chewed bubblegum and tape.

For the first time in years, we feel a great deal of pity for British carmaker Land Rover. Only two months ago, we reported that their new Range Rover Sport design had been copied by anther Chinese clone, called Gonow GX6.
