Although the company enjoys great success in China and it’s already expanding to Russia and Thailand, Great Wall is relatively unknown in the United States. However, the brand’s CEO Wang Fengying thinks the Baoding-based company could become the first mass-market Chinese automaker to come to America.

Speaking to Automotive News, Fengying revealed that Great Wall is still prospecting whether to build SUVs in the United States or just import them from China.

"We started planning to enter the U.S. market two years ago," she said. "We need to study its laws and regulations (on safety and emission) as well as consumer preferences. Since the United States is far away from China and its import tariffs on vehicles are not particularly high, we would prefer to build the vehicle locally,” said Fengying.

Great Wall’s most important export markets are Russia, Australia and South Africa.
