Since the first floating islands were finished in Dubai, worldwide elite tourism changed it’s meaning and the world’s most powerful countries are now looking for newer ideas. A future-forward country, China has just released plans for a massive floating city that will blow mankind’s boundaries.
A great result of Chinese engineering company CCCC collaborating with London-based architects AT Design Office, the 4-square mile (1-.360 square km) island would be home to some of the most impressive skyscrapers.

Both companies are experienced enough when it comes to designing large islands, considering they have worked together for other big projects, as well. Among other big projects, the two also designed Port City, a 450 acres reclaimed island in Sri Lanka.

Along with people that will actually live in this city, the floating megastructure will serve primarily as a high-end tourist attraction, featuring a multitude of recreational activities. According to the Deezen, vast recreation zones will feature multiple restaurants, bars, museum, galleries and a theme park, and areas both on and below the water’s surface will host stadium-style concerts. Various hotels will stand underwater, with incoming visitors being able to dock at the city’s cruise terminal and yacht marina before being transferred to their final destination by submarine.

What’s even cooler, is that the floating city is expected to be entirely self-sufficient, having satellite farms to provide food, hydropower generators to provide energy and rainwater from roofs and facades that will be channelled into a freshwater lake. According to the source, it’s expected that construction of the super city to start within 10 to 20 years.
