The Chinese government is ordering Chrysler to commence an investigation on the Jeep Wrangler, adding that the vehicle has a “relatively high risk” of catching fire, Bloomberg reports.
Additionally, China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine recommends owners of the Jeep Wrangler, which is imported in the country, not to drive their vehicles in extreme conditions and check the chassis and engine compartment for any flammable material.
The statement doesn’t specify how many vehicle might be affected, but owners are advised to contact the manufacturer or authorized dealers. Chinese Jeep Wrangler imports ceased in 2011 over risks related to the gearbox, but restarted in 2012 after Chrysler fixed the problem by replacing some parts.
There’s no word on whether or not Chrysler will begin a recall for the Jeep Wrangler in China.
