Ten years ago, Chinese automaker Chery had the fabulous idea to build an exact copy of the Daewoo Matiz (Chevrolet Spark) and name it QQ. Not that we approve of such acts, but the QQ proved to be a huge success, Chery selling over one million units of its cheap car.
In order to celebrate ten years on the market, Chery has decided to give the QQ a more modern appearance, with restyled headlights, front grille and a glass hatchback.
The body is now slightly longer and wider, but don't let the 2013 QQ fool you, because Chery used the same platform and 92-inch wheelbase. The boxy minicar comes with only one engine for the time being, a gasoline 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 69 HP, and either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission.
Additional engines and a CVT gearbox will be added before the end of the year, as the QQ will be thrown onto other markets, such as Russia and Chile. Already on sale in China, the Chery QQ can be had for only $6,300 (39,500 yuans).
