China: Rolls Royce Ghost Priced at $585,000

Rolls Royce's latest contraption, the Ghost, was shown to Chinese fans at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show as the British luxury car manufacturer sees China as one of the largest markets. The company yesterday announced pricing for the new model which, according to China Car Times, will be offered with a price tag of 3.99 million RMB (which is approximately 585,000 US dollars).

The car was also revealed in Europe at the Frankfurt Auto Show last month and is expected to go on sale on the continent in the remaining months of the year.

Specifically, the new Rolls will be powered by a 6.6-liter V12 twin turbo powerplant that develops a maximum power of 563 hp and 780 Nm of torque. This means the car can jump from 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds. The maximum speed is 155 mph (250 km/h), obviously electronically limited by the manufacturer for your personal safety.

The powerplant is mated to an eight-speed automatic ZF gearbox, with the entire system releasing - hold your breath - 317 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The fuel consumption goes around 20.8 mpg / 13.6 l/100km.

"200EX is a modern execution of timeless Rolls-Royce elegance, breaking with some areas of tradition but retaining the core values that make our marque unique,"
said Chief Executive Officer Tom Purves. "We expect the more informal design to broaden the appeal of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, attracting people who appreciate its fusion of refinement, new technology and contemporary style."

According to the aforementioned source, Rolls Royce has already received 50 pre-orders for the Ghost in China.
