China-Only Mercedes-Benz C-Class Long Gets Launched in Beijing

Having been confirmed by Thomas Webber, the head of development at Mercedes-Benz, even before the “normal” C-Class (W205) was actually launched, the all-new C-Class Long (V205) was finally unveiled this weekend at the 2014 edition of the Beijing Auto Show.

As you know, the model was first spotted with almost no camouflage in a Chinese car wash, then with even less camouflage in an underground parking lot and finally completely naked just as two models were entering the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.

“The capital letter ‘C’ on the C-Class stands very much for China. We developed the long version specifically for our discerning customers in China. It is built exclusively for the Chinese market and is also produced here in China, in collaboration with our long-standing cooperation partner BAIC,” said Hubertus Troska, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for activities in Greater China.

We should give you a mea culpa for guessing wrong the amount of inches that the C-Class Long (V205) has extra compared with the normal one, as the China-only version is apparently 80 mm (3.1 inches) longer instead of just 60 mm (2.3 inches).

The car's length of 4766 mm (187.6 inches) makes almost as long as a Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W210), while the 2920 mm (115 inches) wheelbase is longer than that of a current E-Class (W212), with all the extra space benefiting the rear passengers.

As the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Long (V205) will be largely used as a chauffeured limousine, the front passenger seat can be adjusted electrically from the rear, while the rear bench has been extended by 25 mm (one inch).

Mercedes-Benz hasn't announced the engine lineup yet, but going by the previous generation of the model, expect to see a C 180 L as the base model, a C 260 L as the mid-spec version and a C 300 L as the flagship engine choice.
