Chevy Volt, Harvard-Westlake School Show-and-Tell

American manufacturer GM is taking about the same unconventional approach when it comes to promoting its Volt PHEV, as Ford does for its Fiesta model. The difference is that GM is not using social networks as a main tool for promoting its product, but a live campus demonstration at the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles.

The show, which will start on November 30 at 9:40 AM and runs until 10:30 AM PST, is meant for middle schools across the country and for the general public and will be webcasted at this link. A live streaming video can be accessed here.

"Today’s middle school students are tomorrow’s leaders, so Chevrolet is teaming up with Weekly Reader to provide a fun yet educational experience themed around electricity,” Maria Rohrer from Chevrolet motivated GM's decision. “Electricity is the new fuel of the 21st century and will help shape the future of the automobile.

The show is meant for GM as a means for the Volt to be promoted prior to its Los Angeles Auto Show appearance on December 4. It will feature a brief presentation of the PHEV and will give those attending via the Internet the opportunity to ask questions, while students at Harvard-Westlake will "engage in their own question-and-answer session." A technical display of the vehicle's chassis is also part of the show.

On the sidelines, GM announced today the Volt will officially come to be in fall 2010, despite earlier rumors it will arrive in April 2010.
