Chevy Volt Color Name: EV-ergreen, environMINT or Viridian Joule?

As we told you back in October, American manufacturer GM said it has decided on the default color to be used on the future plug-in hybrid vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt. At the time, the carmaker challenged all those interested in naming the chosen color to post their entries on a specially created web site, so that in the end GM to choose the official name for it.

Today, at some three weeks and over 13,000 entries, GM announced the final three names from which it will choose the name of the color. The three names, listed below can be voted upon by the future Volt customers by following this link. The voting will end on December 1, at 8 AM ET.

  • EV-ergreen, submitted by Devin McQuarrie, 30, of San Jose, California
  • Viridian Joule, submitted by Dave Thomas, 40, of Sanford, Florida
  • environMINT, submitted by Matthew Valbuena, 30, of Rancho Santa Margarita, California

According to Chevrolet, the three names were chosen based on "equally on originality, creativity and the ability to capture the innovation and spirit of the Volt."

The three finalists will win a free trip to Los Angeles, two nights standard hotel accommodations, a $400 gift card and free admission to the LA Auto Show on December 2.

The Volt will enter production sometimes in late 2010, with pricing for it yet undisclosed. According to GM, it will be able to drive 40 miles on electricity without using gasoline.
