General Motors took an unexpected decision regarding the new Chevrolet SS performance sedan, announcing that the unveiling of the production version will take place at the Daytona International Speedway, with just a week before the NASCAR 500 mile-long race.
The car will be showcased in Daytona International Speedway's fan zone on February 16, in what appears to be Chevrolet's first introduction of a whole new model at a racetrack in a very long time. "This is the first time that we've done this in decades, where we're going to introduce a whole new model at a racetrack," said Jim Campbell, Chevy's vice president of perform ance vehicles and motorsports.
The rear-wheel and fuel-injected V8 powered sedan will arrive in US by late 2013 as a 2014 model, and it will be priced higher than the Chevrolet Impala, which has a base price of $27,535, with shipping included. The SS will be manufactured by GM's Australian subsidiary Holden using the Zeta platform.
No less than seven teams will be using Chevrolet cars in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, including Hendrick Motorsports and Richard Childress Racing.
