Chevrolet Volt owners have driven more than 500 million miles - with more than 320 million of those on grid electricity - saving almost 17 million gallons of gas, the Detroit-based automaker announced today.
In addition, Chevy says that Volt owners living in California - which account for 40 percent of the EV’s sales and 130 million all-electric miles - have saved an estimated seven million gallons of gas, enough to mute all gas pumps across the state for about eight hours.
“The Chevrolet Volt is America’s No. 1 selling plug-in with more than 50,000 owners driving electric while achieving fantastic performance numbers,” said Cristi Landy, Chevrolet Volt marketing director. “Volt owners have found the Volt is not only fun to drive, but it provides technology, performance and savings where consumers need it most.”
US sales of the Chevrolet Volt commenced in December 2010 with the 2011 model year EV. The vehicle is being assembled at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant.
