Chevy Cruze Sips Less Fuel for 2012

Consumers interested in purchasing a small sedan in the near future could easily turn their attention to Chevrolet right now, as the American automaker decided to give the Cruze a boost in appeal for 2012. Specifically, the boost comes in the form of a an improved fuel economy thanks to a lower axle ratio, while extending the range of standard features.

But let’s take them one at a time and see what the Cruze brings for 2012. According to Chevrolet, the models with the 1.4L turbo and six-speed automatic transmission will get 2 mpg better fuel economy.

Also, the Cruze Eco with an automatic transmission will deliver as much as 39 mpg on the highway compared with 37 mpg for the current model. Finally, the 1.4L turbo/six-speed automatic will get 38 mpg compared with 36 mpg for the current model.

In addition, some features that were part of the $525 Connectivity Plus Cruise option package on 2011 models are now coming as standard, after Chevrolet noticed that the option in question was ordered by 90 percent of American customers. These comprise Bluetooth phone connectivity, USB port, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a leather-wrapped shift knob.

The Cruze also gets new exterior colors for 2012, including Blue Granite Metallic, Blue Topaz Metallic and Victory Red (with RS appearance package only).

"Fueled by a successful launch in the United States and continued growth in China, Chevrolet Cruze is proving to be the right car at the right time," said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. "Fuel economy is the top reason customers buy a compact and the Cruze's greater efficiency for 2012 makes it all the more attractive."
