Chevy-Based Autobots from Transformers 2 Debut at Chicago

Although it has not yet been launched, the so-much expected blockbuster “Transformers 2: The Revenge of the Fallen” already haunts the minds of the curious fans. And because there are still a few months left until the release of the movie, a part of their curiosity will be satisfied at this year's Chicago Auto Show where the Chevy-based robots from the film will make their debut to the great public.

Apart from the already famous Bumblebee, the heroic Autobot based on Chevrolet Camaro's concept, other four Chevy-based characters will delight the viewers' eyes at the Chicago Motor Show (Friday through Feb. 22).

“Chevrolet is thrilled to again be part of one of the most anticipated movies in years,” said Ed Peper, GM North America vice president, Chevrolet. “‘Transformers’ gives us a great opportunity to connect with young people on their terms, with a dynamic, environmentally friendly image. The new characters represent the change going on in Chevy showrooms. From the exciting Camaro, the 21st century sports car, to the game-changing Volt, there’s more than meets the eye at Chevrolet today.”

The new Autobots are Sidewipe, Skids, Mudflap and Jolt. Sidewipe takes its inspiration from the form of a sleek, vision concept imagined by the Corvette designers at GM. As we have already told you, its design is influenced by both the original Stingray race car and the Corvette models from other generations.

Skids and Mudflap are twin Autobots based on Chevy’s Beat (a concept that will go into production as the Chevy Spark in 2011) and Trax concepts. Although they are small cars, when they turn into Autobots, they become lean mean fighting machine!

As the name somehow suggests, JOLT got its inspiration from the production form of Chevy’s 2011 Volt extended-range electric vehicle.

Certainly, we just couldn't forget BUMBLEBEE, the yellow Camaro based on the new, 2010 production model. The famous Autobot appears more stylish and powerful than ever, so we expect more thrilling adventures with it than in Transformers 1.
