The vehicle is now coming to life, both in terms of engineering and design, at the GM Dat research and development center in Korea, with the earliest expected release date being 2012.
General Motors executives told the aforementioned source that the vehicle will use a stretched Aveo platform and that it may allow customers to choose between front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive.
As for the exterior design, this will use the new Chevrolet family look, which can also be seen on the Aveo. However, the car will come with an interior that will offer a high level of quality. The small SUV will feature the automotive producer’s new “dual cockpit” design, which was introduced with the Cruze compact saloon. The company will also make significant efforts to increase the level of quality in the color and trim area.
The GM Dat design director Taewon Kim told autocar that the release of the new vehicle doesn’t mean that Chevrolet and Opel will target the same audience.
Chevrolet offers the Aveo with an engine range that includes six units, four petrols and two diesels. The diesel part of the range consists of two versions of a 1.3 liter engine, which produce 75 and 95 hp, respectively. Customers who opt for a petrol unit can choose between a 70 hp and a 86 hp version of a 1.2 liter powerplant, a 1.4 liter engine that produces 100 hp and a 115 hp 1.6 liter unit.
