We've been writing so much about today's money-making recipe in the auto industry that every time a new carmaker decides to use it we feel the need to greet the announcement with a long yawn.
This time, it's nothing official, but according to Autonews, Chevrolet is cooking up a new crossover to fill an empty spot in their range.

The same source argues that GM will produce a crossover that will be positioned above the compact Equinox but below the Traverse, according to "three people familiar with the plan."

If this turns out to be true, Chevy's new crossover will rival with the likes of Ford Edge (and the Escape to some extend), Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot and Nissan Murano. But making room for another crossover will obvsiously affect the entire lineup. For starters, the Equinox will have to become smaller than it is right now, which means it could rest on the architecture used by the Chevy Cruze and the Opel Astra in Europe.

The unnamed sources added the Traverse will stay unchanged when it comes to dimensions, but the new crossover will have a shorter wheelbase than the Traverse.

Making a move for another crossover would work out well for Chevrolet and GM, at least in theory, if we look at how good the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka (Buick Encore's European cousin) is performing in Europe in terms of sales.

It looks like potential buyers love to compare vehicles a lot, that's why crossovers have been so popular up until this point. Think about wanting to buy a pair of pants: you'd like a lot of options rather than just one or two different pairs available, right?
