Chevrolet Volt Offers On-Star Remote Access Through Dedicated Website

General Motors announced that it will launch the MyVolt.com, a new website that will allow Volt owners remote access to operational information for their vehicle and give them the opportunity to control multiple functions of the car. The website will be available this month for select smartphones.

The site is based on OnStar’s real-time data connection, allowing users to perform tasks such as checking their battery’s state of charge, setting the charge time and unlocking the doors.

The website offers a complete lift of features for Volt owners:
  •  Displays charge status, indicating whether the car is plugged in or not, and at what voltage (120V or 240V)
  •  Provides flexibility to “Charge Now” or schedule charging at a later time
  •  Displays percentage of battery charge level and expected electric and total ranges
  •  Displays  miles per gallon, electric only miles, odometer readings and miles driven for last trip
  •  Remotely starts the vehicle to pre-condition the interior temperature

Owners will also be able to manually set grid-friendly charging modes that use off-peak times when electricity rates are lowest, turning the Volt into a grid-friendly car.

OnStar technology makes the Chevrolet Volt Smart Grid ready direct from the factory,” OnStar President Chris Preuss said. “The technology is simple, intuitive and helps subscribers work cooperatively with their utility company to manage real-time load requirements that are both economically and environmentally friendly.

The new site also links Volt owners to social media channels like Facebook and Twitter, offering the possibility of immediate sharing of information like energy efficiency, driving history, rate/charging details and others.
