Chevrolet Unveils GPiX Coupe Concept

One more rumor that proved to be true: Chevrolet has just introduced at the Sao Paulo International Auto Show the GPiX Coupe Concept, a new car model designed by the Brazilian subsidiary of General Motors. The first photos showing the GPiX Coupe Concept reached the web a few days ago, but only a few details regarding the car were actually available. According to General Motors, Chevy GPiX Coupe Concept “represents a potential new segment for GM in the Mercosur region” and combines “global design DNA with the cost-benefit necessary to complete in today's emerging markets.”

"It offers the sporty design and versatility necessary for a country with the continental dimensions of Brazil," said Carlos Barba, General Director of Design for GM Latin America, Africa and Middle East. “With this project, the Chevrolet GPiX concept could result in the development of many models for Brazil and the Mercosur region,” Jaime Ardila, President of General Motors Brazil and Mercosur added.

Getting to more technical specifications, the concept features a multifunctional steering wheel, particularly designed for “total driver-car interaction” as it allows the driver to control in-car entertainment systems, MP3 player or Bluetooth connectivity. Besides this, GPiX also integrates standard features such as air conditioning, power windows and power steering.

The exterior is enhanced with 17-inch wheels, a panoramic glass roof which “provides maximum light in the passenger compartment” plus LED headlights and a two-section front grille.

Since it's still a concept, there's no word on its price but a mass-production model might be unveiled anytime in the near future. However, in case you're wondering what's with the name, you should probably know that GPiX actually stands for Global Image (G comes from Global while Pix means picture).
