Chevrolet plans on expanding its in-vehicle entertainment offerings by introducing the new Beats Music streaming service into the AppShop, the manufacturer revealed at the 2014 South by Southwest (SXSW) Trade Show in Austin, Texas.
Officially launched earlier this year, the Beats Music application, basically a streaming music service, allows users to create and play their own personalized playlists or choose from selections provided by music experts.
The app will become available for download via Chevy’s upcoming high-speed OnStar 4G LTE connectivity technology, which will be introduced by the end of the year on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, Impala, Malibu and Volt.
The new system will make it into the 2015 Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark, Spark EV and the Trax (Canada only) as well, but that won’t happen until next year.
As for the Chevrolet AppShop, it will begin to roll out later this on select 2015 models with MyLink technology, including the Cruze and the brand new Colorado mid-size truck.
“It’s all about giving our customers options to be connected in their vehicle,” said Cristi Landy, Chevrolet marketing director. “We realize there’s not a one-size-fits-all option for everybody. So, we’re focused on giving people ability to choose their preferred music service while also opening their eyes to new services they may not have tried before.”
The OnStar 4G LTE built-in Wi-Fi hotspot will allow Chevrolet driver to connect their personal devices, such as smartphones, laptops and tablets, to high-speed wireless internet. Pricing will be announced later this year.
