Chevrolet Showcases the Strengths of the 2015 Silverado 3500 HD

Unveiled at the Texas State Fair last September, the 2015 Silverado Heavy Duty is Chevy’s most recent weapon aimed at Ford’s new F-Series Super Duty line of pickup trucks.

The mule is available with a choice of two engines, including a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 that can run on either gasoline or ethanol and a 6.6-liter turbocharged Duramax diesel V8. The former generates 360 hp and 380 lb-ft, while the later delivers 397 hp and an amazing 765 lb-ft of torque.

Paired to an Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission, the Duramax mill enables the 3500 HD to haul up to 5,690 pounds payload and 23,200 pounds on a fifth-wheel hitch, 700 pounds more when compared to the previous model.

According to Chevy, that just one of the advantages the Silverado HD has over its rivals. The new truck also benefits from a high strength fully-boxed steel frame and a a number of advanced technologies, including trailer sway control, hill start assist, diesel exhaust brake and an updated tow/haul mode.

These features are pretty cool in Chevy’s newly released video, which you can watch past the jump, but it remains to be seen whether the Silverado HD will be able to overthrow the Ford F-Series Super Duty or not.

The Blue Oval company has been bragging about the 2015 Super Duty for nearly half a year now, but they’ve been testing their new F-350 alongside the 2013 Ram 3500 and the 2014 Silverado 3500, which wasn’t exactly fair for GM and Chrysler.

But until these new trucks are pitted against each other, you’ll just have to enjoy these commercial-like videos and draw your own conclusions.

And if you’re wondering where both trucks stand as far as starting prices go, the 2015 F-Series Super Duty fetches at least $31,045, while the 2015 Silverado Heavy Duty wears a $31,310 sticker.
