When horsepower and torque figures of the 2015 Corvette Z06 were leaked before the supercar’s unveiling event in Detroit, we started wondering what kind of road monster will be unleashed when the new ZR1 arrives.
Well, it seems that we no longer need to worry about that, as the seventh-generation Corvette Stingray won’t be getting a ZR1 version. At least that’s what Corvette engineer Tadge Juechter suggested at the Detroit Auto Show.
According to Autoblog, Juechter said that a new ZR1 would require significant investment in design, testing and certification for very little performance gains. With the 2015 Z06 set to deliver at least 620 HP and 635 lb-ft of torque, which would be hard to beat, Chevy would rather focus on the LT4-powered vehicle for now.
GM has yet to reveal pricing info for the brand new Z06, but Juechter said the new halo car will have a sticker similar to that of the C6 ZR1 when it goes on sale by the end of the year.
