Chevrolet continues to be the best-selling General Motors brand in the United States. Pickup trucks make up most of the sales volume, but SUVs follow suit with excellent figures for the Equinox and Traverse.
In order to move a few more utility vehicles, the Golden Bowtie decided that more choices should do the trick. Taking inspiration from the Trax Midnight Edition, the Traverse Midnight Edition has been added to the LS and LT trims for the 2021 model year with a cool monochromatic makeover.
Offered exclusively in Mosaic Black Metallic, the package includes a black ice grille, black-painted aluminum wheels, bowtie, badging, and roof rails. Both trim levels come standard with a 3.6-liter aspirated V6 and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The six-cylinder cranks out 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet (361 Nm) of torque, and the combined fuel economy isn’t too shabby either at 21 mpg (11.2 l/100 km) for the FWD version.
“Customer choice is a competitive advantage for Chevrolet,” declared Steve Majoros, vice president of marketing. “Special editions and unique trims allow us to offer customers the custom look they want straight from the factory. This helps us get more customers interested in our vehicles, which in turn can help Chevy grow sales volume, market share, and revenue.”
Also new for 2021, the Traverse LS and Traverse LT can be specified with Sport Edition goodies. This package is pretty much the same thing as the Midnight Edition, with one notable exception. More specifically, Chevrolet allows Sport Edition customers to choose the exterior color.
Looking further into the future, the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox will be available with the RS trim because this package accounts for one-third of Chevrolet’s small and mid-size SUV sales. According to the biggest of the Big Three in Detroit, more than 140,000 RS trims were sold since 2018.
The Equinox RS stands out in the crowd with the help of a gloss-black mesh grille, Dark Android wheels, black bowties, badging, as well as roof rails. As far as the interior is concerned, the finishing touches come in the guise of black upholstery, eye-catching red stitching, and the RS shift knob.
