Now that we're only days away from the official debut of the Volt, Chevrolet is trying anything that's possible to maintain a high interest in the car and make sure that its extended-range electric vehicle will become a major success straight from its launch. With this goal in mind, Chevrolet decided to launch the Volt Unplugged campaign, a special tour that allows interested drivers from around the US to give the Volt a spin.
The tour will begin in Seattle and will end in Chicago, with stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Antonio, Houston, Miami, Washington D.C., Orlando, Raleigh and New York City. Registered drivers will not only be able to get behind the wheel of the Volt, but also get in touch with engineers and designers that contributed to the long-awaited Chevrolet model.
The Volt is powered by a Voltec propulsion system, which combines pure electric drive (25 - 50 miles) with an efficient, range-extending engine, giving the Volt up to 350 total miles of range.
According to data released earlier this month, the car is priced from $41,000, or $33,500 net of full federal income tax credit. The American manufacturer will lease the Volt for as low as $350 for 36 months and a down payment of only $2,500. In addition, Chevrolet will also retail special Volt home charging units for $490 before installation, but the final goes way beyond this level.
SPX Service Solutions, the provider of home charging installation services and equipment chosen by Chevrolet to sell the unit, will charge three times the price of the unit itself to install it: $1,475.
