General Motors Korea has introduced a stunning example of automotive art, the Chevrolet Mi-ray Concept, today at the 2011 Seoul Motor Show. We find the name of the vehicle quite fitting, as it means 'future' in Korean. It was created to celebrate Chevrolet's centennial anniversary which takes place this year.

The sports-roadster is powered by two electric motors mounted in the front, each producing 15 kW (about 20 hp) of power for the front axle. A 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is also present in the mix - mounted in a mid-rear configuration and driving the rear wheels. The last big element of the drivetrain is the 1.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is recharged by a regenerative braking system.

"'Mi-ray' is Korean for 'future.' As GM rolls out Chevrolet across Korea, the Mi-ray concept offers an exploration of future possibilities for the brand. It strengthens the bond between car and driver, creating a fresh look at what sports cars of the future might be,"
said GM Korea President and CEO, Mike Arcamone.

The Mi-ray can run on electric power alone and the petrol engine provides an extra kick through a dual-clutch gearbox when needed. However, no official performance of range figures were released.

The GM press release makes a big case surrounding the futuristic concept’s design, saying inspiration was taken from such classics as the 1963 Monza SS and the 1962 Corvair Super Spyder. It’s interesting to note that the body makes use of carbon fiber, especially for the spoilers. The Mi-ray is also fitted with large 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the back.

We really hope that this is Chevrolet’s ‘future’! Tell us if you think such a car should make it into production in the comment section below.
