2011 Chevrolet Cruze BTCC racerJason Plato and Alex Macdowall
This weekend will mark the start of the 2011 British Touring Car Championship, with Brands Hatch hosting the first event of the series. Chevrolet is looking forward to the season’s debut, with Jason Plato and Alex Macdowall, who will manhandle their Silverline Chevrolet official works-based Cruzes bening ready for the fight.

The first three races of the season will take place on the Brands Hatch track, with the Cruze returning to the track which saw it seal the 2010 Drivers Championship Victory, being manhandled by Jason Plato. For this year, the Cruze, built by Wellingborough-based RML, has been reinvented and comes with a livery resembling that of the Chevrolet World Touring Car team.

The circuit’s a great hit with the fans, and last time we were there we won the championship,” said Plato. “It’ll be great to start the season somewhere where we’re so well supported, but this time without the championship going right down to the wire. It’ll be great to see how the new car performs on a circuit where we know the old one was absolutely brilliant.

Last year was all about experience for me,” said MacDowall, “This year is all about points, and a determination to get on the podium. With Silverline Chevrolet and RML behind me, I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity.

The action kicks off Saturday April 2 with qualifying, which will be streamed live on ITV’s website for the first time. The live raceday coverage includes all the BTCC races, as well as action from all the support races of the series.
