It is now the second time this year that GM is forced to take drastic measures to reduce the production of the Chevrolet Volt - they halted production between March 19th and April 16th. This time the Detroit-Hamtramck plant will remain unused from September 17th to October 15th.
It seems that everybody from the 1,500 workers, to the parts supplies have all been informed about the scheduled downtime, despite the fact that GM officials would not confirm whether the information was accurate or not. The official line from GM was as ambiguous as usual: "We don't comment on production schedules [. . .] We continue to match supply and demand."

This is an odd move, considering the fact that Volt sales have more-than tripled, when compared to last year’s numbers. GM will, however, be adding an additional shift at the plant, to accommodate the additional production of another sedan - the all-new Impala, set to enter production at the plant early in 2013.
