There’s no hiding the fact that General Motors has gotten plenty of screen time over the course of the four movies in the Transformers franchise, but the relationship between the car giant and everyone’s favorite alien robot movie is beneficial both ways. And a recent video from Chevrolet aims to show us how.
Aside from the numerous leading and supporting roles played by GM vehicles, Transformers: Age of Extinction is unique in that the automaker seemed pretty accommodating in terms of its facilities, historical concept vehicles and even its executives. In the movie, filming was shot at the GM Tech Center, the proving grounds and the wind tunnel and the 1957 Corvette Stingray Concept makes a cameo. As for the executives, Ed Welburn, GM vice president of global design, managed to snag a talking role in the movie.
This level of involvement GM has with Transformers 4 goes well beyond product placement to the point where Michael Bay & Co. had access to vehicles before they were on sale, which all helps make for better car chases and explosions. It must be paying off since the latest installment in the Transformers movie franchise just opened in theaters, and it’s already taken in $100 million in its first weekend.
