Chevrolet Equinox Runs High in December

Chevrolet performed pretty well last year and in December alone, so the company took a little time to praise some of the models that registered increases in 2010. Chevrolet Equinox is one of the models that continued to remain attractive despite the fact that crossovers might not be considered so attractive during recession times, posting a 79 percent increase in December to 22,764 sold units.

The Equinox adopted an increasing trend in October 2010 when it posted a year-on-year increase of 62 percent to 12,773 vehicles, while in November it remained at 61 percent and 15,387 sold units.

"We don't expect sales to slow any time soon," said Kerry Whelan, owner and president of Buff Whelan Chevrolet in Sterling Heights, Mich. "Almost everyone who test drives an Equinox leaves with an Equinox because of how well it drives, its interior design, and its fuel economy."

Chevrolet Equinox competes in the United States against Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4, out of which only the CR-V sold better in December. Honda delivered a total of 23,125 units last month, an increase of 24 percent as compared to December 2010, while Ford comes next with 18,691 delivered vehicles.

"The Chevrolet Equinox continues to be one of the fastest-selling vehicles in one of the fastest-growing vehicle segments," said Alan Batey vice president, Chevrolet Sales and Service. "The added Equinox production has proved to be a creative way to quickly meet customer demand, and is clearly helping Chevrolet attract sales we might not have otherwise."
