Chevrolet Cruze SS Launched in Singapore. Sort Of...

GM vice president of global engineering Mark Reuss officially confirmed last year that the Super Sport nameplate will be brought back to life and everybody is now expecting the Chevrolet Cruze SS. Surprisingly, Chevrolet introduced in Singapore a so-called Cruze SS bodykit that consists of a sporty treatment for the typical Cruze.

The compact sedan can be thus customized with side skirts, a more aggressive rear fascia and spoiler, 17-inch wheels and illuminated scuff plates. We're sorry to disappoint you but these are practically all the things included in the package, as the guys over at Chevrolet haven't worked on the performance sector.

In case you're really sure that all these upgrades would look good on your car, the whole package costs around $3,500 but, as we said, is only available in Singapore.

In standard configuration, the most powerful Cruze is a 1.8-liter version that produces 139 horsepower and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. For the sake of comparison, the Chevrolet Camaro SS - a real model wearing the Super Sport nameplate - comes with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that rolls out 422 horsepower and helps it sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

As mentioned, Mark Reuss hinted that the return of the SS badge is still possible but he hasn't provided a possible date to see the super-performance Chevy back on the road. However, the last months of 2010 or maybe early 2011 are the most probable to witness the introduction of the real Cruze SS.
