Chevrolet Cruze Awarded 2011 Canadian Car of the Year

A panel of judges from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) named the Chevrolet Cruze as the “2011 Canadian Car of the Year” during an award ceremony which took place during the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. Following rigorous testing and evaluation of 144 new vehicles by over 70 Canadian automotive journalists, the Cruze was named the winner for its affordable combination of practicality and efficiency.

“We are very proud to receive AJAC’s 2011 Canadian Car of the Year honours for the all-new Chevrolet Cruze, which reflects a major refocusing of investment on smaller vehicles and fuel efficient technologies. The Cruze represents our line in the sand: We’re playing to win – and delivering the goods – in the small car business,” said Kevin Williams, GM of Canada’s president and managing director.

Since it was launched, the Chevrolet sedan has received numerous awards around the globe and has managed to win over a lot of customers, over half a million to be exact. The car has only been available in Canada for three months now, but it is already doing well for the company, with GM reporting its sales volume increased 32 percent versus the same three months of the previous year.

As part of its commitment to build a good car, Chevrolet has put the Cruze through more than 6 million kilometers (3.7 million miles) in quality and durability testing worldwide, making it one of the most tested GM products before a launch. The car has also achieved five-star safety ratings in every market where it is being sold. Its comprehensive equipment list includes 10 standard airbags, Chevrolet’s My Link application by OnStar, Bluetooth, USB connectivity and navigation system, cruise control, power locks and power outside mirrors.
