"Why would anybody build a boat that looks like a Chevrolet Corvette, which is clearly the case with the thing we have here?" Well, if you ask the gearheads behind this shenanigan, the correct question is a big, fat Why Not?
What you can see in the clickable GIF above isn't the kind of seven-figure speed boat that makes use of the Corvette's heritage - we discussed such a machine back in 2011. That's when a Marine Technology ZR48 special model went under the spotlights, with this being animated by a pair of twin-turbo Mercury Marine V8s (each unit offers 1,350 hp). For the record, the vehicle was offered for $1.7 million at the time.
Instead, we seem to be dealing with a more... civilian build, one that certainly demanded a much lighter budget. This seems to be a boat that has received a C7 'Vette "skin".
And, at least judging by what we can see in the brief piece of footage at the bottom of the page, the visual side of the mix seems to work pretty well, while the two-seater nature of the vehicle has been maintained (we can't say the same about the removable roof, though).
Even the wheels have been portrayed rather accurately, so perhaps somebody seeing this from a distance might believe it’s all about recreating the sad episode that saw an easy money chaser deliberately driving a Bugatti Veyron into a lake back in 2009 (the man was sentenced to a year in prison last decade).
Of course, there are plenty of questions that appear to remain unanswered. For one, is that wing adorning the posterior of the boat functional? If so, won't this cause trouble when the front end lifts?
Then there are gamers, who will tell you that the Gran Theft Auto franchise has made this sort of shenanigan possible for quite a while now, but this is another story for another time.
