Among all the crazy concepts that seem to be drawn each year towards SEMA like there were a huge electromagnet hidden somewhere within the premises, Chevrolet brought a very normal-looking pickup truck to its stand.
Painted Red Hot, the Trail Boss 3.0 concept is based on the Crew Cab 4WD model and is basically a showcase vehicle for all the accessories available for the truck, and then some. It’s also a pretty capable off-road vehicle, something that can easily be deduced from its increased ground clearance and all-terrain tires.

The list of modifications the Colorado Z71 Trail Boss 3.0 went through is extensive, but the most eye-popping are the proven off-road truck suspension package, the cargo bed-mounted sport bar with LED, black bowtie emblems front and rear (with LED lighting up front), 17-inch aluminum wheels painted black, rally stripe graphics, and performance exhaust.

Then there are other modifications that are harder to see, like the G80 automatic locking rear differential, the 4WD transfer case shield and the performance air intake to match the exhaust at the other end.

We said the Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Boss 3.0 concept looked like a Ford F-150 Raptor, but we meant that as a compliment. This newly found adventurous look suits the Chevy pickup quite well, and we can’t see why it shouldn’t get more lifestyle customers who don’t own farms but enjoy taking their truck outdoors.

Since the list of available accessories covered the interior as well, the Trail Boss 3.0 concept also has some tweaks inside the cabin. We’re talking about trinkets like ambient lighting system, rubberized floor liners, a brushed metal interior trim kit, stainless steel sill plates and all-weather floor mats with the Z71 logo.

"The Colorado Z71 Trail Boss Edition is made for tackling the tough terrain required to get away from it all and this concept version does it with rugged style," said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing. "And whether it's the Colorado, Silverado 1500 or Silverado HD, there's a Chevy truck to take you where you want to go, regardless of whether there's a road leading there."

"At its core, the Trail Boss offers owners the gear-carrying ability and versatility they need to venture off-road, with segment-leading efficiency and capability," continued Piszar. "The Trail Boss 3.0 concept builds on that to show the choices from Chevrolet to help customers personalize their truck."

The Trail Boss 3.0 was just one of over 20 Chevrolet vehicles (both concepts and production models) present at this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
