The collaboration that started at the beginning of the year between Polyphony Digital and the major automakers to create in-game content that also previews the companies' future design orientation was going quite well, each coming with a concept that seems to have a real-life correspondent in the near future. Then came Chevrolet with the Chaparral 2X...
Have you looked at what BMW, Toyota, VW, Mercedes-Benz and Subaru put out for the Vision Gran Turismo challenge? Those really look like cars that could happen in the next 10 to 15 years' time.

Now look at the Chaparral... now back at the pack above... and then at the Chaparral... Something doesn’t quite add up, right? You were probably expecting Chevrolet to conceive a barchetta racecar with some Corvette influences, but it came out with this StarCraft Protoss vehicle instead.

Don’t get it wrong, it’s a cool car but Chevrolet kinda’ broke the rules with this. It doesn’t really suggest the company’s future design orientation. And if this was not enough, the thing that powers the Chaparral 2X VGT is based on... lasers.

Yep, more StarCraft tech again. The mid-mounted laser system is said to pulse beams of light that focus in a shroud to create shock waves that generate a tremendous accelerating force. What year is this?

The car will be available in the Playstation3-only Gran Turismo 6 with the next update, coming during the holiday season. Until then, you can admire the fantasy in these real pictures from the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show in the gallery past the jump and the video bellow.
