Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Preview

The modern incarnation of the Chevrolet Camaro has been a hit ever since the first day it set wheel on our world, with the vehicle offering a complete hardcore experience.

However, the Camaro isn’t the only actor on the modern pony/muscle car scene, with the Ford Mustang being the most obvious competitor. The GM vehicle has managed to outsell the ‘Stang so far, but this doesn’t mean that the company is resting on its laurels.

GM is currently working hard to develop the most extreme series incarnation of the Camaro, the Z28. This would fight against Ford’s Shelby GT500 to offer the supreme American Muscle show.

According to autoguide, under the Z28’s bonnet, we should find a supercharged 6.2liter LSA V8 engine. This would be the unit used on the Cadillac CTS-V, but it seems that Chevy plans to up the ante offering even more power for the range topping Camaro. As the CTS-V delivers 556 hp, the power increase should take the vehicle close to the 600 hp zone. This would also allow the Camaro Z28 to top the 550 hp Shelby GT500.

The huge amount of power is expected to generate truly impressive performance. Want an example? Think 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

All the muscle under the hood will also be made visible via a pumped-up exterior, as the Z28 should come with a revised front fascia that would offer it a more aggressive appearance and a dome for the hood that would signal the presence of the monstrous engine.

GM continues to keep its mouth shut when it comes to the Z28, so we still have to wait for official details.
