Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Owned By Chris Harris Is Up For Auction

The Camaro is a rare sight in the United Kingdom because Chevrolet couldn’t be bothered to offer the performance-oriented land missile in right-hand drive. The Z/28 is even rarer, and last time we’ve heard, General Motors reportedly canceled the program for the seventh generation of the American icon.

This particular example of the breed is a 2015 owned by Chris Harris, imported by Litchfield Motors as new. The British motoring journalist and Top Gear host bought the car in the autumn of 2017, featuring 223 miles on the odometer. According to Collecting Cars, this Camaro Z/28 “is believed to be one of only five such cars in the UK.”

Having covered 7,962 miles since it rolled off the assembly line, the car presents itself in tip-top condition. From the Tremec TR-6060 manual transmission to the 7.0-liter naturally aspirated LS7 engine co-developed with Corvette Racing, there’s a lot to like about the Camaro Z/28. Sticky and wide tires, a limited-slip differential with a helical gear set, and Multimatic DSSV dampers are featured, along with a large front splitter and thinner glass.

Approximately 130 kilograms lighter than the ZL1 for the fifth generation, the Z/28 also includes flared wheel arches, a functional diffuser at the rear along with a spoiler, flush underbody panels, and Brembo carbon-ceramic matrix brakes. 19-inch black alloy wheels, black leather and suede, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in 305/30 bring the go-faster point home.

To this day, the Camaro Z/28 has kept its value rather well in the classifieds and at auctions. The rarity of the car in the United Kingdom is certain to weigh heavily as well, bringing the winning bid to a rather obscene sum. Collecting Cars doesn’t give a pre-auction estimate, nor does it mention a reserve price.

The Z/28 was unveiled at the 2013 New York Auto Show as a fixed-head coupe, followed by the convertible at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the fall. The most exciting Camaro of the fifth generation won the Motor Trend Best Driver’s Car Award in 2014, edging ahead of the BMW M4, Nissan GT-R, and Alfa Romeo 4C.
