Chevrolet Camaro Outsells Ford Mustang

Rivalry is fearsome among America’s two top muscle cars and in this war the Camaro manages to come on top regarding sales levels in the first quarter of the year.

Debuting on the market just one year ago, the Chevrolet Camaro managed to outsell its rival, the Ford Mustang, in the beginning of 2011. According to Detroit Free Press, GM sold 19,972 units of the Camaro as Ford managed to sell just 15,419 units of the Mustang. In third spot rests the Dodge Challenger with 9,742 units sold.

The reason we continue to outsell Mustang is that we are still a very fresh model in the marketplace,” said John Fitzpatrick, marketing manager for Chevrolet performance cars. “I think customers are looking at the car and the distinct look that the Camaro has as well as the performance, the efficiency and really the value,” he concluded.

The total number of sold Camaros does not include many Chevrolet Camaro Convertibles that went on sale in February as well as the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 which will be available on the market starting next year. On the other hand, Ford’s sales figure includes the Mustang Convertible and the Shelby GT500, in other words, the Camaro beats the Mustang with one hand wrapped around its back.

Last year, the Camaro succeeded to outsell the Mustang for the first time since 1985 and judging by the figures so far, it seems it’ll do it again this year and probably next year with the introduction of the high performance Camaro ZL1 .

General Motors brings more good news reporting that by summer the maximum engine output of their muscle car will increase by 11 hp.
