Chevrolet Bolt Configurator Goes Online, DC Fast Charging a $750 Option

For the 2017 model year, General Motors upped the ante with its first proper electric car in the form of the all-new Chevrolet Bolt. Kicking off from $37,495 before any applicable incentive, the Bolt also happens to be good value for money, but only just.

First of all, theBuild & Price Your 2017 Bolt EV configurator wants you to choose between the LT and Premier. The entry-level trim level comes equipped with many bits and bobs from the get-go, including 17” wheels, 10 airbags, LED daytime running lights, auto HID headlamps, rear view camera, single-zone automatic climate control, MyLink 10.2-inch touchscreen media system, Regen on Demand, and auto up/down power windows on all corners.

The Premier, which starts from $41,780, adds turn indicators in the side mirrors, sexier wheels, roof rails, leather and heated seats all around, a 360-degree camera system, ambient lighting, as well as a flurry of active safety features. Next up, exterior colors. No-cost finishes include Mosaic Black Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, Nightfall Gray Metallic, Arctic Blue Metallic, and Summit White. The Bolt can be had in optional Cajun Red Tintcoat, Kinetic Blue Metallic, and Orange Burst Metallic for an additional $395.

Inside, there are three color combos available: Dark Galvanized Gray, Dark Galvanized with Sky Cool Gray, and Light Ash Gray with Ceramic White. The entry-level LT comes exclusively with Dark Galvanized/Sky Cool Gray Deluxe cloth seat trim. Depending on the trim level, contents and pricing for the optional packages (Comfort And Convenience and Driver Confidence) differ. In the exterior features menu, fast charging comes as a $750 add-on for either trim level. IntelliBeam headlights come as standard only on the upper trim.

Curiously, customers who want Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking need to tick Driver Confidence Package from the Premier’s options list. For the interior, Chevrolet offers everything you could imagine, from a Bose audio system to wireless charging for your mobile phone. A set of all-wheater floor mats will set you back $140. At the end of the day, a properly equipped 2017 Chevrolet Bolt Premier will take you to $45,000, give or take a few bucks.

So there you have it. If you can’t wait after Tesla to finish work on the Model 3, the Chevrolet Bolt could be your ticket to zero-emissions driving. Do keep in mind, though, that adaptive cruise control is a no-show. As a brief refresher, 238 EPA-rated miles is the most the Bolt can offer per charge.
