Chevrolet Aveo Sedan to Make European Debut in Geneva

Chevrolet has a whole bunch of goodies in store for this year’s Geneva Auto Show, taking place next month, as the carmaker has recently announced it will debut the new four-door Aveo Sedan for the European market during the event. The US version of the car, called the Sonic, made its world debut at the Detroit motor show in January, where it was well received. The Aveo’s chassis has been tuned to provide European customers with a bit of involving handling, a trait which stems from the car’s tight body frame integral (BFI) structure. All cars will come with McPherson strut front suspension, Electronic power steering (EPS), electronic stability control (ESC) and ABS brakes as standard. The European engine range will include four cylinder petrol and diesel units that feature variable valve timing, double continuous variable cam phasing and common rail fuel injection in the case of the diesels. Three petrols are available, namely a 1.2-liter that delivers either 70 or 86 hp, a 1.4-liter with 100 hp and a 1.6-liter with 115 hp. The Aveo Sedan will be offered for the first time with two versions of a 1.3-liter diesel engine (75 hp and at 95 hp) featuring Start/Stop technology. “The new Aveo represents another important step forward for us in every respect: design, handling, quality and space. We’d love to see it emulate the Cruze in terms of sales success. The current Aveo Sedan is 5th best seller in Europe in the small 4-door segment with a share of 12.5%.With the new model, we expect to increase that share significantly,” said Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
