Since Auto Shanghai 2015 means Chinese brands get to evolve on their home turf, Chery couldn't miss the opportunity of showing off what they've been working on.
That's how we stumbled upon the Arrizo M7, an MPV based on what Chery calls the "Arrizo Standard". The purpose, as Chery officials explain, is to “meet the seven-member family’s demands for travel in daily life.”
Well, we took a look inside the car as we wanted to see if the Chinese are ready to enter the family-car game. Seen from the outside, the car wouldn't make you turn your head twice, that's for sure, but since it is made to transport children to school and back home, there's no such requirement.
Since the interior makes all the difference when you want to serve family-oriented purposes, that's what we focused on. And guess what: the cabin is very versatile, but the most striking feature is the immense amount of space you get inside. We dare to say it's better than what the Daci Logan and MPV have to offer, with outrageous boot space and cabin craftsmanship having their say on our evaluation.
The overall assembly is good, materials come in decent quality and the dashboard has a modern look. Moreover, Chery is offering two engine and drivetrain options for the Arrizo M7, as it follows.
First, clients can opt for a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 137 HP and 182 Nm (134 lb-ft), managed by a CVT gearbox. Other than that, those on a budget can choose the 1.8-liter unit delivering 130 HP and 170 Nm (125 lb-ft), but mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission.
The lowest price variant has a price tag of 79,900 yuan ($12,881) while a top-of-the-range version has a sticker of 107,900 yuan ($17,396), but at a first glance the car looks like it's worth the investment.
